Installing a wireless home security system
If you picture a wireless home security system, you might be thinking that there’s no wiring to install anywhere. Actually, that’s not the case at all. There are still lots of wires utilized with this type of system, but burglars typically can’t see them. The wiring is attached to special sensors and is often remote controlled. These kinds of security systems are usually connected to a radio that activates a buzzer by the alarm company that monitors your home. So it’s essentially the same as a wired monitoring system, just a different technology.
If you’re worried that removing the batteries from the sensors could enable a burglar to circumvent the system, don’t be. The sensors are installed on the inside of your doors and windows, so they would be triggered before a thief could access them. Also, don’t be concerned about a power failure causing your wireless home security system to fail. There’s an easy way to ensure that you have continuous connectivity. Just make sure you have a backup system in place, by installing a UPS with additional battery packs. It won’t be the best home security system if the power fails and your system goes down. This will cost you some extra money on your installation, but it’s worth it having that extra layer of protection.
Having a wireless home security system installed doesn’t mean that you can become complacent about crime in your neighborhood, even if it’s generally a safe place to live. In these economically challenging times, theft is on the increase everywhere. So you need to take care to lock your doors and windows every time you leave the house. If you have a security gate, be sure to use it. Teach your children to do the same, and make sure they are clear about what they should do in case of an emergency. Don’t scare them, but make sure they’re alert to possible dangers.
